Officials in Abkhazia, the breakaway Georgian province have declared independence and are requesting Russia's help in obtaining international recognition. The President of Abkhazia, Sergei Bagapsh, is quoted by CNN as stating, "I propose that the Russian Federation recognize the Republic of Abkhazia as a sovereign and independent state and establish diplomatic relations between Abkhazia and Russia."

The plan is, South Abkhazia declares independence, and after, it joins North Abkhazia. This one is a region of Russia, so South Abkhazia will be Russian territory.

I am sorry. I meant Ossetia, not Abkhazia. There are so much news about these two territories that I mixed them up.

This is a reply to USA by Russian Federation. Remember Serbia/Kosovo.

Abkhazia and Ossetia are very different to each other.
They are in turn very different from Georgia.
The ambition by America to keep them in Georgia is not particularly intelligent, although I can see the grand “strategic” purpose.
If people want to be on their own: Let them.
That’s the American way. The current American policy is not very “American.” It is simply because Americans do not understand these parts of the world. (saying it very simply)

The USA-(in the case of Abkhazia and South ossetia) and Russia-(in the case of Kosovo) should remember…President Woodrow Wilson advocated ‘ self determination for peoples”.that sounds suspiciously like “democracy” to me.If they believe it ,then why should it be a problem?
