Brunei Not in Olympic Games

While the world was anticipating a record 205 entities participating in the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, the Asian country of Brunei unfortunately did not make the cut. Brunei failed to register their two athletes, swimmer Maria Grace Koh and shot putter Mohammed Yazid Yatimi Yusof, by midnight last Thursday in time to compete. Thus, there are a mere 204 entities competing in Beijing.

The host nation qualifies for every event so they have an advantage. However, for all other nations there are standards to qualify in every sport (by time, by placing well in regional international competitions etc.). There is no minimum. There have been teams with 1 member.
