How to Type in Chinese

I've long been curious about how Chinese characters, since there are up to 40,000 of them, are input into a computer. Fortunately, Slate provides an explanation. As it turns out, typing in Chinese is a lot like typing text messages on a cellular phone with word recognition. That would be frustrating as I am not a rapid text-er!
