Brand new U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that Hispanics now make up 15% of the U.S. population with approximately 45 million people. The black population in the United States is approximately 13.5% of the population with 40 million people. However, in 24 states blacks are the leading minority while Hispanics are the leading minority group in 20 states. Of the remaining six states, four states have as their largest minority American Indians and Alaska Natives while Asians are the leading minority in Hawaii and Vermont.
