Ireland's Affluence Leading to Fewer Pubs

The Washington Post has a great article about the reduction of the number of pubs in rural Ireland as that country's affluence increases and people lack spare time to spend in a village pub. Also attributed to the decline are no-smoking laws, stricter drunk driving laws, and greater use of the automobile for transportation which increases the utilization of higher order urban centers for work and recreation.
