A brand-new California statewide earthquake probability study has been released that indicates that California has a 99.7% chance of a major 6.7% earthquake striking somewhere in the state in the next thirty years. The probability of a magnitude 7.0 quake is 94%, of a magnitude 7.5 quake is 46%, and of a magnitude 8 quake is 4%. Geographically, the chance of a 6.7 quake in the San Francisco Bay Area is 63% and for Los Angeles is 67%.
