Japan today became the 28th country to recognize Kosovo as the world's newest independent country. Japan adds its name to a international roster that includes the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Australia. Wikipedia provides a nice map and list. On the other hand, Russia is leading an effort to keep Kosovo, which is a Muslim country, from being recognized by other Muslim countries.
