Macedonia, the country also known officially in the United Nations as "The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia," (and alphabetized under "The" on the U.N.'s list of member states) will have its upcoming negotiations to enter NATO and the EU stalled unless it changes its name to suit Greek objections. Greece claims the name Macedonia as its own after the ancient region within ancient Greece. The U.N. has proposed five new names for Macedonia: Constitutional Republic of Macedonia, Democratic Republic of Macedonia, Independent Republic of Macedonia, New Republic of Macedonia, and Republic of Upper Macedonia. FP Passport and the New York Times have more.

Of the five options for Macedonia the former Yugoslav republic, I think that “Republic of Upper Macedonia” sounds by far the best. Saying “Upper” before “Macedonia” makes the nomenclature much more specific, and removes the onus on Greece to totally claim the name “Macedonia” for itself. That could end a long time of bickering between Greece and FYROM. The other four options just say “Macedonia” basically.
Idk, Yosef. The fact that Greece is objecting to the name of a modern-day country because a little part of it thousands of years ago was named the same thing… Idk. Call me crazy, but I think Greece should just let it go.
Greece want to steal MACEDONIAN history(becouse thay dont have their own history),thats why they want to change the name macedonia.I think that they need to find and read INTERNATIONAL LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS BOOKS
Macedonia has been around for 1000′s of years. So in 1913 Greece takes part of Macedonia, and names it “Northern Greece” (where such a name stood for decades) until in the late 1980′s – when Macedonia wants to declare its independence from Yugoslavia – Greece decides a name change is in order from “Northern Greece” to “Macedonia”?
And Greeks have the audacity to want Macedonians to rename ourselves to “New” Macedonia and in one fell swoop wipe out our history as a people and nation? It should most definitely be the other way around, Greece’s allotment is the New Macedonia. By far. Macedonians were here long before 1913. That history can assure you.
Listen. Do not have an opinion while you listen because frankly, your opinion doesn?t hold much water outside of Your Universe. Just listen. Listen until their brain has been twisted like a dripping towel and what they have to say is all over the floor.
