Weakest States

The Brookings Institution has published The Index of State Weakness in the Developing World, which measures the world's most vulnerable countries. "The Index ranks and assesses 141 developing nations according to their relative performance in four critical spheres: economic, political, security and social welfare." The five weakest states are:

1. Somalia
2. Afghanistan
3. Democratic Republic of Congo
4. Iraq
5. Burundi
