The American Geophysical Union has revised their statement on Human Impacts on Climate and the revised statement includes some strong wording, "The Earth's climate is now clearly out of balance and is warming. Many components of the climate system—including the temperatures of the atmosphere, land and ocean, the extent of sea ice and mountain glaciers, the sea level, the distribution of precipitation, and the length of seasons—are now changing at rates and in patterns that are not natural and are best explained by the increased atmospheric abundances of greenhouse gases and aerosols generated by human activity during the 20th century." Read the entire statement on the AGU site and reply to this post to let us know what you think!

LOL Um, sorry to break it to you, but the reason you have no comments is because, that was totally absolutly boring, DUDE Sorry, but, u no, like…… yeah.
That was the most enteresting thing I have Ever READ OMG BECKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im SOOOO Bored!!!!!!!!!!!! You put me to sleep man. Gosh
What is it with people having to blame people for something that is beyond our control? People having an inpact on climate? It is not proven and I doubt that it ever will be. Climate change..YES but that was proven…YES PROVEN..by Milankovitch!!!! Maybe he should have put a frog in a pot to boil to get attention!!
The level of denial here is really embarrassing. All global climate scientists say warming and change is happening, and probably accelerating. But people think there can be a yes-no debate about it. The only debate about global warming is how fast it’s happening.
Global warming is an undeniable trend. The thousands of climatologists, geographers, meteorologists, and others have been demonstrating this for quite a few years. That our current presidential administration, and a lot of its followers want to deny this, is, at best, anti-science, and clearly uneducated.
Please inform yourself about this. The world’s weather is getting more volatile, so it swings more wildly between hot and cold, and calm and stormy. That’s what global warming creates: volatility.
It’s not a Democrat-Republican debate, a liberal-conservative argument, or an environmentalist-developer difference — global warming is underway and will make our lives much more challenging.
By the way: McCain, Clinton, and Obama are all concerned about global warming and have sponsored legislation to deal with it.
I couldn’t agree more with comment number 5 – it seems that the only place in the world where the fact of Global Warming/Climate Change is under discussion is in the USA! Can we please move on to the best way to cope with it – if it is not too late already?
we need to wake up, and learn from our past mistakes, as we have the responsibility of bringing up the next generation.
One must distnguish between the findings of those scientists who are funded by governments or UNO, and independent scientists. That Climate is changing and has been changing with glacials and interglacials for thousands of years is denied by nobody. We are entering a blessed warm period. There is no need for panic or hysteria. The causes of climate change have not been established, though the promximity ot the sun caused by the Milankovich effect is far more likely than the minute amounts of Carbon Dioxide in the greenhouse gases. If we were cooling, as scintists averred some 25 years ago, that would be worrying!!
It’s incredible the way deniers keep deluding themselves and others bringing out the same old disproven statements over and over again. Global warming is happening, and it is caused by humans. This is not hysteria, it is the considered consensus of the overwhelming majority of climate scientists.
To Commenter #8: your sentence should read “one must distinguish between the findings of those scientists who are funded by governments or multinational corporations, and the findings of independent scientist and those who contributed to the UNO.” You are quite right, the US government, along with various corporations, has funded scientists–and they’re the ones who, oddly enough, deny the existence of anthropogenic global warming.
Yes, there are global heating and cooling cycles that come about naturally–but none as drastic as the one we’re in at the moment. And, think about it, if one volcanic eruption can have worldwide effects (e.g. Krakatoa, Pinatubo), why is it so hard to believe that all the millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are being pumped into the atmosphere daily through human action are also having worldwide effects?
King Canute had his throne carried to the seashore and sat on it as the tide came in, commanding the waves to advance no further….
sounds just like….
“By the way: McCain, Clinton, and Obama are all concerned about global warming and have sponsored legislation to deal with it.”
I feel better already knowing that there is ‘legislation’ that will stop cycles in solar radiation and stop the precession of the planetary axis! Had Obama, Clinton and McCain been available 11,000 years ago we could have avoided the catastrophic warming that melted the ice sheets over Europe and North America and doomed so many species to extinction!
Since “consensus” has now become the most important factor in determining who is right or wrong in science according to most of the posters here, the 400 leading scientists who wrote a letter to the UN General Secretary claiming that human-caused global warming is nonsense carry the day vs. the 205 scientists on the IPCC who claim otherwise.
it just can’t be denied any more.

From the numbers below, the Total Global Biomass (Plants, krill, bacteria, fish, animals…you name it) is 75 billion tons.
OK, so far so good, but what will happen if burned the entire planets biomass? Yeah, I mean it, the entire planets biomass up in flames. That would spell Dooms Day, right?
Ehhh, 75 billions tons, not a problem. We are burning 12 billion tons of fossil fuel at the moment, so in reality we ARE burning all biomass ever 6th year….SCARY!!!!
From Wikipedia:
The most successful animal, in terms of biomass, is the Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba, with a biomass of probably over 500 million tons, roughly twice the total biomass of humans. The entire earth contains about 75 billion tons of biomass[dubious – discuss], or 0.00000000126% of the total mass of the Earth. Humans comprise about 250 million tons (0.33%) of the Earth’s biomass, domesticated animals about 700 million (1.0%), and crops about 2 billion tons or 2.7% of the Earth’s biomass.[citation needed] The total biomass of bacteria is estimated to equal that of plants [3
Whether you believe global warming is occurring or not, it is in everyone’s best interest to pursue new technologies to reduce human pollution. Why should we be okay with the status quo utilizing none renewable resources and polluting the air we breathe. Advances in technologies and altering bad habits improve everyone’s quality of life.
Global warming IS occuring. Just as it has done over 600 times over the billions of years since the Earth was formed, and most of those episodes occuring long before mankind existed.
We should all conserve resources. I don’t own a car. I don’t use a dryer. I don’t use airconditioning in a very hot city. But those who run around blaming humans for damage to the climate fly around in private jets, live in mansions that use more energy heating their outdoor pools in one winter than the average family uses all year to heat their homes, and other such sinful waste. Scare tactics are bad policy, and when hypocrites do it, it reeks of elitism which allows people to lecture those who burn wood to keep their families alive while they burn oil in their private jets to go skiing in the Alps.
I have watched the rise and fall of Lake Michigan for 60 years. Twice, beginning in 1954 for about 10 years and recently, the lake level has been well below the 100-year average. In the late 1970s the lake exceded its banks causing wide-spread erosion. The most recent measurement, indicated that the lake is up more than 3 inches from the January 2007 pool. Normally in January, the lake recedes 1 inch or so due to normal winter evaporation.
Now, what does this have to do with global warming. Lake levels, just like global warming is one of the natural processes that make this Earth dynamic. It is not man-made. Eco-warriors conveniently leave out or ignore data that questions their point.
We don’t need studies or mandates to live with our Earth. We need common sense. Conservation of resources should be part of our normal life. There is a place for Prius’s and Shelby Cobra’s. The problem is that people’s egos get in their way and trip them up.
If their is a way to use less of our limited resources, do it! You shouldn’t need to be told. Our society doesn’t allow everyone to walk to their destination and public transportation is inefficient and an economic drain.
Take advantage of the opportunities that surround us. Reward yourself for doing the little stuff and get off your ego-driven soapbox. Studies and government are not the solution. The solution surrounds us!
Every year more oil and gas and coal is burned. There is not even a significant sequestration pilot plant in operation. Every year countries with huge populations, which have never had cars before, are building or importing them by the millions. In China alone two new coal burning power plants go on stream per week. Hundreds are planned. Germany and the US have the most wind generating capacity, yet only 0.8% of US electricity comes from wind and solar – but US electricity demand goes up by about twice that much (1.7%) a year, swamping new wind capacity. The Kyoto Protocal and it’s recent successor were fraudulent from the start. Try as they might, Politicans can legislate neither arithmetic nor thermodynamics. CO2 will increase until depletion and rising costs(and world depression) take over. There is only one overriding problem: Too many people.
