U.N. Waters Down Anti-Rape Resolution

By , About.com GuideNovember 18, 2007

Follow me on:

The United Nations General Assembly approved a U.S.-sponsored resolution to condemn rape but watered down the language of the resolution due to pressure by Angola, representing African countries. The original resolution was meant to chastise Sudan for its treatment of victims in Darfur. In related news, Saudi Arabia sentenced a woman who was raped to receive 200 lashes because she appealed her previous sentence of 90 lashes for being in a car with a man.
