In 2003, the U.S. Library of Congress purchased the 1507 map by cartographer Martin Waldseemuller that was the first to use the name America for $10 million. The library plans to display the map in the Thomas Jefferson building in Washington D.C. later this year. Thus, the Library of Congress is building a large hermetically sealed case for the map, which is more than four four feet by eight feet. The library has more in a recent press release.
