I've discovered a fantastic source for data and information about the demographic state of the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina. The Greater New Orleans Community Data Center provides a plethora of statistics and data to chart the community's recovery and rebuilding. They recently produced a fantastic report (PDF), the 64-page The New Orleans Index: A Review of Key Indicators of Recovery Two Years After Katrina. The report contains data and charts and maps about the number of schools reopening, the number of police stations, the amount of building permits, the percent of households receiving mail, the number of libraries, and so much more. It's worth browsing! Also see my article, Post-Hurricane Population Data Released.
