The U.S. Census Bureau has released some interesting facts and figures related to schools during these weeks preceding the school year. I found it fascinating that in the upcoming school year, about 3.3 million high school students will graduate in the U.S. while a whopping 3 million college degrees will be awarded! There was a large increase in births between the mid-1980s (college grads) and 1990 (high school grads) to account for the 10% difference in graduation rates but the fact remains that they are fairly close numerically. Additionally, 56% of U.S. undergrads are women and 59% of graduate students are women; we're getting closer to Norway in this regard.
