Ed McNierney of TopoZone wrote to discuss my article, The Most Common Place Name in America. He shared some very interesting information...
- The most common feature names on USGS topographic maps is "First Baptist Church." Ed reports that "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" is a very close second.
- Mill Creek, Spring Creek, Dry Creek, Bear Creek, and Mud Lake are the most common names that aren't buildings.
- There is at least one Silver Lake in each of 48 states and Wisconsin has 31 of them. Only Hawaii and Arizona don't have a Silver Lake (nor do the territories of Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands).
