Beijing Climbs in Airport Rankings

Based on data recently released by Airports Council International, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) saw an impressive 18.7% jump in passenger traffic from 2005 to 2006 which caused Beijing's airport to jump from fifteenth to ninth place among the world's busiest airports. In 2005 41,004,008 passengers passed through PEK but last year the airport saw 48,654,770 passengers. As recently as 2001, Beijing Capital International Airport wasn't even among the top thirty and in 2002 at #26, PEK saw a mere 27,159,665 passengers.

In other airport passenger news, Denver International Airport saw a 9.1% growth in one year. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport remains the world's busiest airport with 84,846,639 million passengers enplaning and deplaning.
