Brazil Hoping to Host World Cup and Olympics

Monday July 30, 2007
Brazil is aiming to host the 2014 World Cup as well as the 2016 Summer Games. The World Cup hosting could be on the horizon as FIFA (the world soccer governing body) has stated that they want the 2014 World Cup to be held in South America and as of yet, only Brazil has announced a bid. As for the Olympics, potential host cities need to file an initial application with the International Olympic Committee by September 13, 2007. The IOC will review applications over the next few years and will select the 2016 host on October 2, 2009. The BBC has more about Brazil's bid. Here's a listing of past and future Olympic cities.
