Former British Prime Minster Tony Blair was recently appointed special envoy or diplomat for the four-entity "Quartet" that is heading up the push for peace between Israel and the Palestinian people. The Quartet is led by the United States but also includes the European Union, United Nations, and Russia. Yesterday Blair met with the Quartet's leaders, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, European Union Foreign Minister Javier Solana and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in Lisbon, Portugal to start work in his new position.
