An international team of scientists has determined that the earth's circumference (normally stated as 24,901.55 miles or 40,075.16 km) is a whopping 0.1 inch (2.5 mm) smaller than previously thought. As reported by National Geographic, the researchers use sophisticated equipment to measure the earth to minute detail. The team also discovered that the Pacific Plate remains the fastest moving, headed northwest into Alaska at two inches (5 cm) per year. The Arctic Ocean is widening at a rate of about 0.7 inch (18 mm) a year. For more earth data, see my Basic Earth Facts.
