The International Olympic Committee has announced that the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Russia (population 329,000) will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Sochi beat out strong contender Pyeongchang, South Korea for the privilege to host the games. 2014 will be the first time the Winter Games are held in Russia or the Former Soviet Union.
