The Japanese Geographical Survey Institute has officially changed the name of the infamous island Iwo Jima to Iwo To, which was the original name of the island prior to a Japanese military error during World War II. The island was the site of a deadly battle between U.S. and Japanese forces in early 1945.

The Japanese Military error reason does seem flawed. Earlier maps mention the island as “Iwo Jima.” I bet its more of intranational dialect fight.
