First Girl Since 1990 Wins National Geographic Bee

Eighth grader Caitlin Snaring of Redmond, Washington became the first female to win the National Geographic Bee since 1990 and became the second female to ever win in the final competition earlier this week in Washington, D.C. The 14 year-old home schooled Snaring won a $25,000 U.S. college scholarship and lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.

You have probably been told but a young man won the spelling bee this year. The girl won last year.
