Wettest Cities in U.S.

By , About.com GuideMay 24, 2007

Follow me on:

LiveScience.com provides a listing of the wettest major cities in the United States, based on climatic average rainfall per year. The list was surprising. The top four are 1) Mobile, Alabama with 67 inches; 2) Pensacola, Florida with 65 inches; 3) New Orleans, Louisiana with 64 inches; and 4) West Palm Beach, Florida with 63 inches. I had to look up Honolulu because I presumed it had to be wetter but it only gets about 22 inches a year!

Honolulu doesn’t get much rain, but Hilo (not a ‘major’ city country-wise, but the second largest in the state) gets an average of 134 inches a year.

Hilo was actually the answer to a crossword puzzle and I couldn’t find the “wettest us city” that was only 4 letters anywhere! Thanks very much to whoever posted that comment:)

You should have looked up Hilo, HI, we get between 130″ and 200″ per year.

Jeanne is correct. Hilo is one of the wettest cities. There are also 2 locations in Alaska that should be added to this list. The island of Kauia is very rainy indeed but, there aren’t really ‘cities’ there.
