First Train Across Korean Border in 56 Years

By , About.com GuideMay 17, 2007

Follow me on:

Two trains crossed the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between South Korea and North Korea on Thursday, for the first time since 1951. The symbolic train crossing is a sign of improving relations between the two countries, which are still officially at war although a cease fire was signed in 1953. Future trips may include cargo and passengers. The VOA has more.

I am off to North Korea in two weeks. I’m going to be very interested in North Koreans’ reaction to the train, and how it fits into the bigger scheme of things regarding unification.
