Its not all true that the walls are made for the protection from Mongol nomads. Fisrt appereance of the wall is for the divertion of the kingdooms in chinas land. 221 BC, China unified by Quin Shi Huang and the northen side of the walls are restored for the northen poeoples attack.
The question is, who were the northen people? DNA analysis say ıts mostly the Turkic poeple living in that area. And there are some serious language similarities as well. Eventually after the walls are made, we see Turkic states that very powerful in northen China and in the middle east. So we can say easly that at the time of the walls are made and after, the political and armed power is mostly the Turkic people. The state powers are surely mixed with Mongols too.
So in this point of view, the great wall of China is most probably made for the political and armed power of Turkic people, not for Mongol nomads or any other nomads. Because We see a clear power wars in that area between China and Turkic states.

no, actually its true, the wall was erected to stop invading Turkic tribes.. the same tribes that actually live in Western China today

The wall (almost two third of all) erected during Han (221-110 BC) and Ming (13-16th century) are for protection from the Mongols.
Why Chinese still frightened from the Mongols today I do not understand. History is a history, no need to correct for their own interest.
