I have prepared a list of every country on the planet along with their date of independence. This new list is ranked from oldest country (Japan) to youngest (Serbia, sans Montenegro). It's fascinating that only 20 countries were independent before the start of the 19th century and 1900, only 49 of the world's countries of today were independent.

This list is great! I never realized that Nepal declared independence before the US did. I’m wondering about your use of December 16, 1971 as the date of independence for Bangladesh. Bangladeshis actually celebrate independence on March 26, 1971. That was the day independence was declared, then the war went on for nine months, and December 16, 1971 was the day the war ended and independence was accepted by Pakistan. So, to me it seems like listing December 16, 1971 would be the same as listing 1783 as the date of independence for the United States.
