Now this is silly. I know that Buddhists tend to be happier than non-Buddhists, and even poor people tend to be happier than rich. I have never seen happier people than the people of Myanmar and they are brutalized and poor beyond belief…
Silly I say !!!

I’d be tempted to figure that it’s all related to the look of their women, as there are no better looking babes than Scandanavians. But Russian gals are pretty darn hot, too. So I just don’t know. I guess I’d better study the matter some more.

Peter, you make a great point. More research is definitely needed. I see potential for a PhD. dissertation.

(translation of above): Hello, I write from Costa Rica. I believe Costa Rica is one of the planet’s happiest countries. Our country has no Army, and we live in a stable manner close to nature, our gift from God.

I can see why America and Canada are happy places to live, but even in those countries people deal with depression because even in the best of countries web or our society fails people in many ways. Depression would not be in our vocabulary if really we were making progress as a people. In fact the Bible says our times are critical hard to deal with. Why? Because of the lack of natural affection. Thank God that he will restore the paradise Adam and Eve lost.

Translation: Ignacio, I’m not sure how long ago you made this comment, but according to various international organizations’ statistics for 2007, Costa Rica is not the country with the longest life expectancy, it’s Andorra (between Spain and France). Though I don’t doubt that Costa Rica is a very happy place. I’m Colombian and I know that Colombians are very happy (also rank high on the happiness scale)in spite of the challenges the country faces. The 2 countries have much in common.

No better looking babes than Scandinavian? I guess if you like tall women with (generally and comparatively speaking) no hips and flat behinds, then maybe you’re right. My guess is you haven’t been to Latin America yet. And don’t base your perception of latin women based on the immigrant populations you see in the USA (unless you’re in Miami). You want to go to mamacita heaven? Go to Colombia. I’ve been to 25 countries so I’m not basing this on subjective opinion. You’ll freak. Make sure to wear a bib.

I agree with the guys that assure happiness depend on how hot are the women. Colombia is one of the happiest countries how can you explain that in a country with bombs, drug dealers violence in every corner. It is because of the colombian girls they are hot and very kind.

I can tell you I have lived in the U.S largest cities Like New York. I do not miss it at all. Happy to be home in my Country Colombia,,, its not only about our beautiful Women that makes it one happy place, its the culture of people have a sense of making there sorroundings happy, rich or poor; smiling, laughing tell jokes,, fiestas,,rumbas,,, pachangas, overall human affection , despite sometimes the circumstances .. Happiness is a state of mind. there is even a Japanese program which brings Japanese with depression and suicidal issues, come to colombia to help them look at life in a different way and experience how Colombians enjoy life,, happiness is contagious. I can see how some would disagree ,the culture is all together different- some would nor understand.
