When 21 year-old Tobi Gutt wanted to fly from his native Germany to visit his girlfriend in Sydney, Australia, he accidentally searched for and purchased tickets to Sidney, an oil town of 5000 in Montana. Gutt ended up spending three days in the Billings airport waiting for funds to purchase a ticket to his intended destination in the Southern Hemisphere. More from Yahoo News.

…Or the passenger could have ended up in Sidney, Vancouver Island, a short drive from Victoria, B.C. This is similar to the story of a man flying home to Oakland, CA about 15 years ago. Upon hearing the PA system announce a boarding call, he boarded a flight to Auckland, NZ, which is pronounced by New Zealanders the same as Americans pronounce Oakland. After too many hours in the air, he wondered why the flight was taking so long.
