In an effort to encourage "Drivers and pedestrians to interact in a free and humane way, as brethren -- by means of friendly gestures, nods of the head and eye contact," several European towns are eliminating traffic laws, traffic signs, and even stripes on the roadway to encourage safer driving. I can't see this working on the San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405) in Los Angeles. Spiegel Online has the story.

Was just catching up on my emails when I read this article. No stop signs reminds me of Nebraska communities. You will find few stop signs on the corners of communities in that state. Even in the large city of Lincoln, you must take care of driving through residential street intersections as they are NOT marked. It was something I was not used to but I did slow down considerably when approaching such an unmarked intersection.
