The survey does not measure IQ (which is private and only tested on some) but includes factors like teacher pay and class sizes, things which have nothing to do with intelligence.

(2) Miriam Morales says:

Okay so who decided this? To assume this the surveyer must have tested each individual, one by one, living in these states. Wow,hard work! Yeah right!

I worked in education for seven years. There are teachers, and administrators, I met that I could not actually believe are in the system.
It is all politics, money, and numbers…and personalities. Hmmm! Something like Washington, D.C. I suspect.
The entire U.S. education system is ancient and in need of some serious repair.
Perhaps TABOR should be looked at more closely in every state.

How come over 90 percent of UC and CSU educated young people want to stay in California?

It would be interesting to break it down by Republican versus Democratic states.

(6) NNy says:

Why? It pretty obvious that anyone who strictly affiliates with one or the other is a moron. SO, you only vote democrat, or you only vote republican? Congrats, you’ve just completely devalued the democratic process. your vote is now meaningless, and you’ve helped ruin it for everyone else too! God bless America!

I don’t know, but I’ll bet the guys who made the rankings are in the northeastern part of the U.S.

(8) Antonio Natividade says:

Does this mean the number of people who graduated from high school, university, etc. or their marks — 80%, 90%, etc.?

THANK YOU FOR THIS WEBSITE:-IT IS EXTREMELY VINDICATING!!!!!!!!! Hello, my name is Bruce and I am a college graduate from the extremely Intelligent and Great state of Massachusetts. Six years ago, upon completing my bachelor’s degree in Massachusetts, I had an unusual employment opportunity to move out to Arizona, and at that time I was excited, and very optimistic about the move because I had never been to Arizona and I knew absolutely nothing about Arizona, but as the past five years progressed I learned more and more about this genuinely pathetic place until all of a sudden one day every molecule of optimism and excitement was as extinct from every part of my being as the dinosaurs are from this earth. By far the biggest disapointment to me which I only learned over the period of the past year or so was how nauseating and unserious that Arizona is about education. The information that I have learned from good sources about the quality of education in this state is so pathetic that I believe infatically it is indeed a civil criminality and moral abomination. In addition, I have met more people that I can count on a calculator here in Arizona, who have less intelligence than a grapefruit, who constantly lie-deliberately and diabolically, through their teeth about figmental college degrees that are complete falsehoods and lies which are invented from uneducated, resentful jealous minds and these exact kind of individuals maintain a steadfast hatful predjudice and perpetual evil jealousy against any individuals with a decent college education who come to Arizona from other more refined and far more intelligent states than this state which ranks 50-(FIFTY)-at every level of education, and is literally and unquestionably a national disgrace. Next to that, the degree of alcoholism in Arizona and how it is not only tolerated but literally condoned as a national past time and infinate excuse is unfathomable even to God Almighty Himself! I do not know-nor can I contemplate for even a millisecond, what this pathetic state will be cellebrating so jovally when it arrives at it’s 100 year statehood centennial in 2012, but I will uncompromisingly suggest that it is high time for all of the uneducated alcoholic red-neck losers to finally at long last put down their beer cans and pick up a book and start fortifying their brains with knowledge instead of inebriating their brains with alcohol. SORRY,NO POLITICAL CORRECTNESS HERE: ONLY THE TRUTH!!! And Arizona, stop condeming with such predjudiced jealousy and malice:-educated people who come from other more refined and intelligent states because Arizona forever wants to hang the blue ribbon of meditorious civility upon individuals who have nothing what so ever to be emulated for and every reason and right to be ashamed!! The quality of pathetic education in Arizona-or rather the lack of adequate and appropriate education is completely unacceptable and is a total embarrassment and humiliation to the United States of America and all of the intelligent, learned principals that this great nation was founded upon and by the way America, to be educated is to be a better person. That was one of the greatest principals that America was founded upon not so long ago. THE OLD WEST IS OVER ARIZONA:-GROW UP!!!!!!!!!

Before you post a horrendously long diatribe about how smart you are, and how stupid others are, you should proofread your post. While I agree that everyone I’ve ever met from Arizona is an idiots as well, it seems like it was no accident that you ended up there. If I had to tell you all of things you misspelled, and fix grammatical errors as well, this post would be longer than yours.

(11) James M. from CT says:

Makes sense. It’s based on national testing. We have better schools and more of them. It feels like we’re the tallest midget sometimes, it’s nice but even here we in this country have a long way to go. The Southern states and Southwestern states have too much policy over us and it’s unfair……It’s not an accident we all believe in Evolution, Climate Change, and Gay Rights.
There are reasons why our Financial Center, Legal Center, Media Center, Progressive Center, and Braintrust are concentrated in New England and the Northeast. We don’t have that stupid Wild West Attitude either.

Very interesting comments here, however, it seems that not one person can seem to put the relation (except for Mississippi) between states with very large populations of people who have just come from other countries (illegal or not) and obviously lower scores contributing to the mix…
