South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon will replace Kofi Annan as the Secretary General of the United Nations when Annan steps down December 31 after serving two five-year terms as the organization's leader. Ban, 62, will be the eighth Secretary General of the United Nations; his selection was approved by the General Assembly.
