A recent survey found that few Europeans knew how many countries are members of the European Union. While there are twenty-five member countries, correct answers ranged from 8% of those in the United Kingdom to those in Cyprus who knew the answer 58% of the time.

Well there are always new countries joining, so it’s hard to keep track of who’s in and who isn’t. That’s the excuse representing the U.K, anyway!!
I’m sorry if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem very clear in the article that “some Europeans may know less geograph than Americans” as Matt’s headline states. My point is: there is no point for comparison: I personally believe that the vast majority of Americans would have problems estimating the number of countries that belong to the EU (as it is more difficult for them, since they live far away from Europe)
Hi Alex! Thanks for the post! My headline is somewhat in jest, comparing Americans’ lack of geographic knowledge to the apparent lack of geographic knowledge in parts of the EU.
