This interesting division of the United States made me think about that great book by Joel Garreau, The Nine Nations of North America. Here's a site that has a summary of Garreau's ideas.

Your link showing the U.S. divided into 38 states was interesting.
If I remember right wasn’t Texas (in it’s admission to the Union) supposed to be divided into 3-5 states?
What ever happened to that division?
