Largest Combined Statistical Areas

Although the U.S. government changed the name of Metropolitan Statistical Areas to Combined Statistical Areas a few years ago, CSA still refers to big urban and suburban areas based on county boundaries. The U.S. Census Bureau recently released population estimates for all of the CSAs and their components so I provide you with a delightful list of the 42 Combined Statistical Areas With Populations Above One Million. Plus, see how Boston jumped two spots into the top five!

What happende to Miami-Ft.Lauderdale-West Palm Beach? Are they individual MSAs?

What about Miami – Ft lauderdale-Palm Beach, surely a classic example of a combined metropolitan area?

Other missing cities/ areas include, Tampa-St.Petersburg -Clearwater ,San Antonio TX and Portland OR and perhaps Jacksonville FL and Memphis TN.

yea miami-ft. lauderdale-west palm beach should be on there. 5.5 million.
