Formerly part of the country of Serbia and Montenegro, Montenegro has gained independence following a national referendum on May 21 and has become the 193rd country on earth. Montenegro attained full independence on Wednesday, June 28 when it was accepted into the United Nations as that organization's 192nd member. Montenegro's capital and largest city is Podgorica.
