Tropical Storm Alberto became the first named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season today. Alberto is expected to remain a tropical storm (39-73 mph) over the next few days and should encounter the northern Florida peninsula around Tuesday and then continue just off the East Coast and toward Newfoundland through the week.
During last year's active storm season, Arlene became the first named tropical storm on June 9. The National Hurricane Center website is the best for monitoring tropical storms and hurricanes throughout the season; plus, they have fantastic track maps!
