The United States Census Bureau just released detailed population data about population change in Gulf Coast states following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. The big news from the data is that nearly one in ten Louisiana residents (379,032 people) fled the state following last year's hurricane season and didn't come back during 2005! In addition, one Louisiana parish lost a whopping 94.8% of its population between July 1, 2005 to January 1, 2006. Much more data and fascinating information is available in my latest article, Post-Hurricane Population Data Released.
