Alhough the Mason-Dixon line is most commonly associated with the division between the northern and southern states during the American Civil War-era, the line was delineated in the mid-1700s to settle a property dispute. The two surveyors who mapped the line, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon, will always be known for their famous boundary.

I’m just working with a group in Cockfield a small ex mining village in the UK, the birth place of Jerimiah Dixon. They are looking at putting together a project to celebrate his birth in 2013, marking the occasion with a lasting tribute and also seeking to do a re-enactment of the practice they made on the Cockfield fells. Any one interested in giving background info or ideas for celebration? Good to hear from you.
