A 13-foot wide fissure in Ethiopia may be the beginning of a new ocean and scientists plan to observe the ocean's creation over the next one million years. The 37-mile long fissure formed following an earthquake in September. I'm a tad concerned about the science in this Associated Press article because the article says the fissure is 621 miles northeast of Addis Ababa, which places the fissure squarely within Yemen and well outside Ethiopia's boundaries.
