Earth scientist Timothy Kusky of Saint Louis University wrote an excellent opinion paper on the need to move New Orleans out of New Orleans because keeping it in its current location is a huge mistake.
Thank you for your insightful article. I live in New Orleans and,as the months and years since Katrina have transpired, I’ve watched the evidence mount that our position here is untenable. There is a visible fault line 24 miles north of my current location in Hammond, Louisiana. This fault is widening at the surface and gradually lowering our 300 year old culture into the sea. We need to move north and take the contents of our museums and history with us. It’s a fearful thing to leave home knowing it’s going to be destroyed. It’s scary knowing that you can’t go home again but leave we must. Thanks again for expressing the hard science that we must face.
