Mt. Everest Shrinks

Mt. Everest, which was 29,028 feet and then 29,035 feet in 1999, is now apparently 29,017 feet high. The latest "official" measurement comes from the Chinese State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping. The National Geographic Society currently accepts the 1999 elevation of 29,035 feet. They have yet not announced whether they will accept or disregard the new elevation.
