A new Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite was launched late Sunday night from Cape Canaveral. The new GPS 2R-M1 satellite is the first in a new breed of GPS satellites that will improve GPS signals worldwide. Additional satellite are scheduled to be launched two to four times each year, to slowly replace the aging network of 24 primary satellites (along with several backups). The GPS business is growing quickly - analysts expect the industry to grow from $16 billion in 2003 to $68 billion in 2010.
