Your Editor and Guide provides a plethora of reasons why the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico is not an independent country but truly just a commonwealth and territory of the United States.

Puerto Rico is not a Country…Agree.
1. Agree
2.Agree, needless to say “the only citizens of the US…approved by Congress” check history 101.
3.Negative, we do have an economic activity and organized economy, we used to export sugar cane and coffee as a trade but sadly after we became a COLONY we lost all that.
4. Somewhat? Wrong! we do have the power of social engineering (they are employed by NASA we keep a few) and have our own Department of Education not related or regulated by the US Dept. of Education. The Federals do run everything to an extend (likewise in the CONUS)and does not mean that you do not have the “somewhat power”.
5. Agree
6. Wrong again, we only depend on the US Forces in the same way that the real states depend on them. Our goverment provides public services as well as any free country and we our police force protects the country and civilians in internal issues. Think about Iraq…we are on the same boat.
7. Agree, but with a difference that we have our own representation in the Olympic Games and Ms. Universe…or have not you noticed?
8. Puerto Rico can not recognize anything…Puerto Ricans can. There was one time when P.R. became independent for one day…history 101. Plus our situation is ore of a colony than anything else. We have no autnomy due to the US ruling in some of the issues…but like I said there are other issues that they have not touched…see 7 above.
