Japanese Scientists to Drill to Mantle

By , About.com GuideJune 5, 2005

Follow me on:

Japanese scientists are launching a giant drill ship next month into the middle of the Pacific Ocean to drill six miles into the earth's mantle to obtain samples. The samples should provide the scientists with insight into the composition and structure of the mantle; they're also looking for life in any form deep within the earth to help determine if life can exist on Mars.
