Homeschooled 13-year-old Nathan Cornelius from Minnesota won the final round of the 17th annual National Geographic Bee in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, May 25. He was a state winner in Minnesota three times in a row in 2003, 2004, and 2005. After answering the question, "Lake Gatún, an artificial lake that constitutes part of the Panama Canal system, was created by damming which river?" with the correct answer of "Chagres River," Cornelius wins a $25,000 scholarship.
