The United States Geological Survey has introduced a new online map that shows the odds of a significant earthquake striking any place in California over the next 24 hours. The map is primarily designed to show aftershock activity but the map does show increased probability for certain areas of the state. While most of the state has a 1-in-10,000 to 1-in-100,000 chance of a quake hitting today, some areas (green on the map) approach a 1-in-1,000 chance.
