The United Nations Population Division expects the world population to rise to 9.1. billion in 2050, which is an increase of more than 40% over the world population of 6.4 billion today.
The UN expects almost all of the growth to occur in developing countries. Between 2005 and 2050, the population is projected to at least triple in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Chad, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger and Uganda.
