Edmund Hillary Dislikes Road to South Pole

Sir Edmund Hillary has expressed his displeasure with a 1,000 mile-long snow road being built by the United States in Antarctica. The road will link McMurdo Station on the Antarctic coast to the Amundsen-Scott base at the South Pole. The road, which is a series of flags or markers on the ice, is designed to reduce the number of air transport flights between the two bases. Nonetheless, the road requires significant engineering to cross major crevasses along the route.
