In the third century B.C.E., the State of Caucasian Albania, with its southern borders extending along the river Araks, was formed in the north of Azerbaijan (which is not near modern Albania). The people of Azerbaijan's Albania (so named because Albania is one of the ancestor nations of the present-day Azerbaijanis) consisted of various ethnic groups, the overwhelming majority of whom spoke Turkic languages. According to Merriam-Webster's Geographical Dictionary, the area was inhabited by the fierce Scythian tribe who faught against Rome. More history from the Azerbaijan embassy site.

Mr. Rosebenrg gives very little information, makes smb. interesting on such issue, but himself seems to be not sure.He can’t give more datas, because doesn’t like it or doesn’t have any more.
Albania was formed in the first century BC, not third. They took their name from an Armenian man name Arran, an Armenian.
