The United Nations just released their Human Development Report 2004 which ranks Norway at the world's top country in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment and adjusted real income. Following Norway are 2) Sweden, 3) Australia, 4) Canada, and the 5) Netherlands; the United States is ranked eighth. The lowest ranked countries are 177) Sierra Leone, 176) Niger, and 175) Burkina Faso.
Life expectancy at birth now ranges from a high of 81.5 in Japan (#9) to a low of 32.7 in Zambia (#164). AIDS has reduced life expectancy in many African countries, as this year's report reveals.
